Group discussion: Safer schools
How can we make schools safer?
The following incidents are reported to have happened recently in different schools:
- students’ bags, purses, jackets, mobiles and other personal belongings have been stolen
- there have been some cases of drug dealing on school grounds
- several times aggressive students have threatened classmates or shown violent behaviour
- teachers’ cars have been damaged in the car park
As a result of this, a project has been initiated to establish a scheme for ways of improving the safety at schools so that such incidents can no longer happen.

SITUATION:
You are a group of four students from different schools wanting to take part in this project. Take 20 minutes and exchange your ideas.
PRESENTATION STAGE:
All members introduce themselves and outline their position in regard to what they think is the most effective way to significantly reduce incidents as the ones mentioned above.
DISCUSSION STAGE:
The participants discuss the reasons of violence at schools.
They discuss which kinds of measures are most likely to effectively increase safety at schools.
The group agrees on the most effective option to reduce violence in schools.
